The Chorley and West Lancashire Cricket Academy
The Chorley and West Lancashire Cricket Academy [CWLCA] was created in 2020 with the aim of developing junior cricketers, both boys and girls, by providing them with an opportunity to train year round through the delivery of an affordable high quality coaching programme. The Academy will provide tailored courses for all age groups of children from the age seven and above. The content of the courses on offer has been created not only by the coaches involved, but also by listening to feedback from parents whose children had been through various coaching programmes during their formative years.
The Academy is run by Mawdesley Cricket Club and is operated as a not for profit organisation. It is open to any junior cricketer who wishes to participate regardless of where they live and for which Club they play. The courses on offer are not meant to replace the coaching work already done in Clubs, but rather to supplement it. All the proceeds made after hiring the facilities and paying the professional coaches are put back into the sport.
CWLCA aims to provide a quality coaching programme for young cricketers with an interest in developing their playing skills so they can not only enjoy playing the great game of cricket but also to enable them to make the most of their talent and go on and enjoy playing at the highest possible level that they can reach.
The coaching ethos is focused on learning playing skills and techniques to enable those participating to become better players, linked with practice and drills to cement this leaning. There are some soft ball games thrown in to provide the ‘fun’ element when training indoors but only with the aim of reinforcing the learning or developing game awareness.
The Academy aims to meet the development needs of the Clubs and their players in the west of the County using ECB qualified coaches that have experience of coaching at both County and District level as well as Club level. The Academy’s over riding philosophy is to focus on quality rather than quantity and numbers attending courses will be limited to allow the coaches the opportunity and time to work with players in a safe and instructive environment.
Those wishing to attend courses will be segregated into ability levels based on their age and stage of development so that they can be taught not only as individuals but also develop as a group. Players will be allocated to groups depending on whether they are either Advanced, Development or Beginner players.
